A sports car with a long history that dates to the late 1970s is the Toyota Supra. As a high-performance version of the Toyota Celica, the first-generation Supra, also known as the Celica Supra, was released in 1978. It had a 2.6-liter inline-six engine and was distinguished by having a large hood and short rear deck.

The second-generation Supra was created as a stand-alone car and debuted in 1981. It had a more potent 2.8-liter inline-six engine.
